SKIN1004 Philippines Madagascar Centella Asiatica Toner and Ampoule Mask Review

Harnessing the unsullied nature that can be found in Madagascar, SKIN1004 has created a skincare line that is potent yet gentle on the skin. Today, I’ll be reviewing their Madagascar Centella Asiatica Toning Toner and Madagascar Centella Watergel Sheet Ampoule Mask.

About Skin1004

Why the number 1004? In Korean, 1004 is pronounced as cheonsa which is a homonym for the Korean word for angel, 천사 which is also read as cheonsa. With this in mind, SKIN1004 aims to be your skin’s guardian angel. Skin 1004’s products have ranked Top 1 on the largest ingredient review site "Hwahae" in Korea.

Madagascar and Centella Asiatica

Home to unique flora and fauna, Madagascar houses some wildlife that can be found nowhere else on Earth. Did you know that Madagascar is said to be the first location where Centella Asiatica was found? According to Meder Beauty, it was during 1930s when French botanist Pierre Boiteau identified Centella Asiatica as one of the plants used by a healer in Madagascar. Today, Centella’s healing effects on the skin are widely known and well-loved by skincare aficionados.

Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Asiatica Toning Toner

Not only does this toner have the well-loved Centella extract but it also has PHA which is currently gaining traction in the skincare community. If you’ve tried AHAs and BHAs but have found them unsuitable for your skin, you might want to give PHA a try as it is much gentler on the skin. Apart from soothing acne problems, it also addresses other skin troubles such as eczema and psoriasis.

Centella Asiatica Extract 84%: has anti-inflammatory and skin healing effects

PHA (gluconolactone): gently exfoliates the skin, suitable for sensitive skin

Hyaluronic Acid: hydrates the skin

Niacinamide: brightens the skin

Review

It’s amazing how this toner can do it all! An all-in-one toner is the best way to describe this toner. The gentle exfoliation from the PHA removes the buildup of dead skin cells while strengthening the skin’s barrier to prepare a fresh and clean slate for your skincare products to seep into. The intense hydration and instant skin relief attributed to the Centella, hyaluronic acid, and betaine makes me think that I could end my skincare routine here (if I’m being lazy).

It feels really light on the skin, like a toner would, which was why it was definitely a surprise that it can leave the skin smooth and supple.

Madagascar Centella Watergel Sheet Ampoule Mask

The mask itself sets the Madagascar Centella Watergel Sheet Ampoule Mask apart from the rest. Unlike other masks, this mask is a gel type sheet mask that is able to hold in more moisture as compared to a regular mask.

Watergel Fabric

Thick and puffy, the appearance of the ampoule mask is truly different from the usual mask. It’s not just for the appearance’s sake, it is thick and puffy because it is able to contain 3 times the ampoule as compared to your usual sheet masks. This is possible because this watergel mask is made of bamboo and tencel fabric that undergoes a special process.

Corn Mint Oil: controls excessive sebum while cooling down the skin

Low Level pH

A low pH level is optimal for the skin and the Madagascar Centella Watergel Sheet Ampoule Mask has a pH level of 5.9 which is close to the skin’s natural pH level of 5.5. Using skincare products that are close to the skin’s ideal pH level of 5.5 allows the skin to maintain its health and radiance.

Review

Soft and cool on the skin, I could probably take a nap wearing this ampoule mask on my face without feeling bothered by the mask. Even when I stayed in a room where it felt hot, the mask still had a slight cooling effect. As for its thickness, it definitely felt thicker than the usual mask and it did seem to hold more product/ampoule. The ampoule is brown in color which made the mask appear to be slightly brownish.

With good adherence to the skin, it wasn’t obvious that I was wearing a mask since it was very translucent and it formed little to no bubbles despite little effort to straighten out the mask.

I was expecting the ampoule to be more viscous since it was an ampoule but despite being less viscous, it didn’t affect the product’s performance. After taking off the SKIN1004 mask, my skin looked smooth, supple, and dewy. I was surprised at how non-sticky the ampoule was, there was no trace of stickiness. My skin quickly absorbed the ampoule, leaving a protective barrier on top of my skin, it didn’t look shiny but I could feel it when I touched my skin.
