5 IMPORTANT THINGS YOU SHOULD NOT IGNORE IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR FEMININE WELLNESS

Dear Dreamers
When it comes to wellness, the first few things that come to mind are spas, massages and pampering. What then is feminine wellness? A redefinition of the concept of wellness is the inclusion of vaginal care to feminine wellness. Whether you have given birth, plan to conceive, am young or am old, here are 5 important things you should not ignore if you care about your feminine wellness.

1. PROBLEMS DOWNTOWN
You might see or experience problems within your intimate area and just brush it off as “normal” despite the obvious abnormality. When it comes to our intimate area, we usually are too embarrassed to ask if it’s normal having discolored discharge or lumps. Unlike when you comes to other areas of our body, we can easily ask our parents or our family physician without feeling embarrassed.
In some schools, they don’t educate us about what a problematic intimate area would be or look like. Thank goodness for internet and, of course, your OB-GYN.

2. VAGINAL RELAXATION
Young women who are afraid to let others know about their predicaments such as a loose labia should not be ashamed. Commonly associated with women who have given birth, having loose skin down there can even hinder daily actions, especially in severe cases. A simple motion of sitting down or walking becomes too painful for these women and they should not be ashamed and afraid. V-Restore, an intimate makeover, can solve this problem.

3. URINARY INCONTINENCE
During pregnancy, we experience urinary incontinence as a result of the burden of the womb on the bladder. These involuntary leaks continue after giving birth and sometimes, women even resort to using sanitary pads due to worsened conditions. V-Restore easily solves this problem and the results are lasting.

4. PAIN OR DISCOMFORT
It could be because of laxation, as mentioned above, or even an infection. If you experience pain then visit an OB-GYN, especially if the pain is chronic.

5. YOUR VISIT TO AN OB-GYN
A visit to the OB-GYN is not just for pregnant women or women who plan to conceive. As the name suggests, an OB-GYN is a physician who specializes in two fields. OB stands for obstetrician, a physician who delivers babies. GYN stands for gynecologist, a physician who specializes in the female reproductive organs. Hence, OB-GYN.

A visit to an OB-GYN can even save you even without your knowing that you even had a problem. Dr. Aherrera shares one of her patient’s experience who wanted to undergo V-Restore but ended up discovering she had cancer. Dr. Aherrera then performed surgery on her and the cancer was removed. See, a simple visit can become a life-saving experience. Students can ask their universities if there is an attending OB-GYN within the university. Schools such as Ateneo de Manila University have their own OB-GYN clinic.

A LITTLE STORY
Before I end this post, let me tell you about a little story. When I was in elementary school, when my period had just arrived, I was scared. I didn’t know what was in store for me until a visit to a local bookstore. I found a book that was sort of a Teenager Girl’s guide to her changing body, what to expect and how to manage (I forgot the title). Of course, my parents looked at me with a weird look but still bought it for me because they were supportive of buying books so I can learn to love reading.

I think it did me a lot of good, you know. I’m not ashamed of bringing up things that would usually earn a hush due to conservatism. I prefer being safe than sorry, much like that trip to check if I had breast cancer. That book was truly a huge help, it explained what would happen to a teenage girl’s body, in the form of comics. There were even menstruation trackers, activity pages, diet suggestions to control acne and more!

I truly hope that I can raise my daughter in an environment where she would feel no need for shame and be open in discussing her intimate concerns with me.

It’s high time women overcome their embarrassment and empower other women by spreading awareness of feminine wellness. To know about V-Restore surgical and non-surgical procedures, visit my post about V Restore: Empowering Women
