TOP 5 PICKS AT PITSTOP FOOD PARK CONGRESSIONAL EXTENSION

DEAR DREAMERS
With race track decorations, a starting line, street signs and stop lights , motor enthusiasts will surely appreciate this motor-themed food park. Pitstop Food Park celebrated their grand opening on April 28, 2017 with special guests and live bands. They aim to provide “the thrill of hi-speed motoring” to those who visit Pitstop Food Park.

The motor theme seems enticing especially to guys like Isaac, who got a kick out of the oil barrel turned faucet sink, but how about the food? Despite the motor theme, in my opinion, there is actually only one food stall that truly matches the theme and that is Route 66. Well, maybe G-Stop fits the theme as well.

PITSTOP FOOD PARK STALLS
Here are the 24 stalls that can be found in Pitstop Food Park:
Native Grill, Sons of Burger, Thirsty Heroes, Brandon’s Steak Hub, Chinders, Kimu San, Tokyo Tempura, Jian’s Dimsum House, Tapa Out, Masta Pasta, Qrazy Quesadilla, Route 66, Nitro 7, King Kebabs, Chef Resty’s, Honey Bunch, Shisha Lab, Frozen Spoon, Bahay Buko, G-Stop, Nori Sushi Burrito, Beer Below Zero, Fruit Locker and Pork Barrel.

We were given five food stubs, so for this food park, I went around the place numerous times. Mentally weighing which food would seem good and would seem worth it, I finally came up with my top five picks based on first impressions.

1. TOKYO TEMPURA - UNLIMITED TEMPURA P199
This was not the first time I have tried their tempura. Isaac and I bought a cup at their Greenhills branch and at another time, we both availed of the unlimited tempura at a different food park. This time, I gave the unlimited tempura to Isaac since there is no sharing allowed. Truthfully, it was their nicely decorated stall that caught my eye, the other branches’ stalls that I have visited are not as nice as this one, kudos to the giant tempura.

To avail of the unlimited tempura, you would have to buy their Kublai Khan rice for an extra P50 so the price is actually P249. The first batch will contain 5 pieces and the subsequent batches will contain 3 pieces of tempura. Thankfully, the orders came with sauce so that helps fight off the umay factor.

To sum it up, their unlimited tempura is worth the price especially if you love tempura. Considering the prices of tempura in restaurants, Tokyo Tempura is affordable in comparison, without sacrificing the quality and taste.

2. CHEF RESTY’S - ROAST BEEF COMBO MEAL 2 P180
I have a soft spot for roast beef so when I saw their roast beef carving station, I had to check it out. Food is served quick as they do not need to do on-the-spot cooking, customers can just point the side dishes that they like.

Isaac and I agreed that their roast beef was scrumptious. According to Isaac, their beef is cooked well which is why he really liked this dish. What I liked about it is that they had my favorite side dishes, mashed potato and corn and carrots which I thought would go great with their roast beef. If you feel that you need something heavier to make you full, go for their pasta as a side dish.

3. KIMU SAN - SHOYU RAMEN (LARGE) P250
Another stall that caught my eye was Kimu San. Their stall is adorned with lighted Japanese parasols and is reminisce of the street food stalls in Japan. When I saw that they had ramen, I had to try it. However, I felt like I should have ordered something else as I cannot help but have high standards for ramen as I always compare it with the ramen at Ippudo and Ramen Nagi.

Shoyu Ramen contains broth that is made with soy sauce. Their Shoyu Ramen is not bad, pretty standard stuff. If they had Tonkotsu Ramen, I would gone with that as that is my favorite type of ramen, rich and flavorful. One thing is for sure, their ramen left me feeling full thanks to the large amount of noodles and substantial amount toppings namely the narutomaki, seaweed, egg and pork. If you ever need a ramen fix, why not give Kimu San’s ramen a try?

4. QRAZY QUESADILLA - QRAZY QUESADILLA WITH CARNE P185
I was kind of craving for Mexican food and I was wondering what made their quesadillas “qrazy”. The quesadilla is grilled in front for the customers to see. Food that has lots of cheese and juicy beef in it definitely has my favor so seeing them put a lot of cheese in the quesadilla was enough for my appetite to be enticed.

5. NITRO 7 - CHOCOLATE MACADAMIA (REGULAR) P120
Due to my pregnancy, I had to limit my caffeine intake so it has been a while since I had a cup of coffee. When I heard that Nitro 7’s coffee was infused with nitrogen gas, I got a little curious and it got my love for coffee running.

Isaac and I agreed that the coffee is good, really good, but somehow I cannot seem to determine how the nitrogen has given the coffee a different taste. I read somewhere that adding ice dilutes the new flavor formed by the infusion of the nitrogen gas. That must have been it because the drink I was served had a lot of ice.

Upon further research, I learned that usually no sugar is added to the coffee, the infusion of the nitrogen makes the coffee sweet. Learning that was a surprise because the nitro coffee was nicely sweet.

OVERALL
Overall, the food is good and the quality is above average compared to other food parks. The prices vary as well, some are affordable and some are reasonable. What’s nice about it is that are numerous choices for drinks and there is no monopoly of one stall serving drinks. The food choices are vast, with nitrogen infused coffee, liquid nitrogen ice cream, ramen, sushi burrito, roast beef, kebabs, pasta, pizza and more, something is bound to catch your eye.
