A MESSY AND FRESH EXPERIENCE AT THE BLUE POSTS BOILING CRABS AND SHRIMPS SM MOA OPENING
Last January 23, 2017, I was invited to experience the messiest and freshest dining experience in the Metro. Known for its tagline, “It’s fun to be messy”, Blue Posts Boiling Crabs and Shrimps offers not only the taste of Davao but a unique dining experience as well. Once you dig in the first bite of their fresh and large seafood, you’ll be glad that you’re wearing your plastic bib and plastic gloves because just one bite of their oh-so-fresh seafood will send you into a feeding frenzy.
Entering a quaint fisherman’s wharf inspired restaurant.
With a greaseproof paper table mat, biodegradable plastic bib, plastic gloves and a pack of tissues at our disposal, we were fully equipped to fulfill our messy dining experience.
But first, a sip of their lime cooler, one of their bottomless Nestle Mixology (P69) drinks.
APPETIZER
Let’s not forget to warm up our tummies and appetites with some Crab Chowder (P89) and some Spicy Gumbo Soup (P189). Although their spicy gumbo soup is scrumptious and chock full of spices, which certainly packs a punch, I would still go for their crab chowder any day because it’s creamy, flavorful and just plain comforting.
MAIN COURSE
Now for the main course, the seafood.
There are three steps in indulging in your Captain’s Catch.
STEP 1: SEAFOOD SELECTION
Choose from crabs (market price), shrimps (P573) and mussels (P589).
STEP 2: COOKING PREFERENCE
Be it Blue Posts Boil, Garlic Fried, Sambal, Garlic Lemon Butter Sauce and Salted Egg, you decide.
STEP 3: SPICY INDULGENCE
They have regular, mild and super spicy.
Isaac and I both agreed to taste the crabs first because we both love crabs.
A bite into their crab was enough to send us into a messy eating state. Upon consuming the crab with salted egg and roasted garlic, I was overwhelmed with the new flavor. I was lucky enough to be able to try their newest addition to their menu, which was the crab in salted egg.
Don’t get me started on their shrimps, the sweet taste of shrimp was to die for. Isaac and I had never had seafood this fresh in a restaurant before. You could clearly tell it was fresh because of the sweet seafood taste and how the shrimp skin did not stick to the shrimp meat.
The shrimps in garlic lemon butter sauce was a classic but the shrimps in Blue Posts boil was dynamic. Lathered in an irresistible blend of their signature Blue Posts Cajun sauce, consuming the sauce with rice alone would leave you feeling satisfied.
MY RECOMMENDATIONS
If, like Isaac, you can’t handle spicy food, go for regular but if, like I do, you crave for some heat, go for the mild choice. The Super Spicy is not for the faint of heart, I can tell because I almost could not handle the mildly spicy option. As for the cooking preference, I am torn between their signature Blue Posts Boil and their salted egg option, both are just splendid.
DESSERTA sumptuous way to end our meal was indulging in their Pomelo Cream Salad with Corn (P89) and tapioca (P89) desserts.
The tapioca dessert, on the other hand, is a delightful fruit salad dessert but way better than your ordinary fruit salad. It’s sweet and the tapioca adds a distinct cassava flavor into this decadent dish topped with whipped cream.
Although I had to rely on Isaac to prep the seafood for consumption at some point because I needed to feed Baby Qlyliz, I was thankful for the bibs because it kept me and our baby clean from the mess. Isaac, on the other hand, was not afraid to get dirty, he even refused to wear a bib!
FRESH FROM SEA TO TABLE
Truly a fresh and messy eating experience, Blue Posts Boiling Crabs and Shrimps won’t be seeing the last of us. I highly recommend this to seafood lovers who are willing to spend more for quality and fresh seafood.
OUTFIT
I chose to wear something comfortable and something dark because I already expected a messy dining experience. On me: Fabjat Collection aztec kimono, thrifted floral top, Uniqlo polka dot pants, H&M oxfords and Kawaii Box Harajuku pins. On baby: Little Dreamers PH blue flapper dress inspired onesie.
